Le Ballon Rouge

Le Ballon Rouge began a series of reading journeys in 2017 in Hengchun, the southernmost part of Taiwan. Starting from simple lectures and sharing sessions, our bookstore evolved into a long-stay program, and the promotion of reading extended to book truck trips and editorial camps exploring the history of the island. Cross-domain collaborations expanded from video partnerships to the sale of diverse local products in-store. With the bookstore as its core, Le Ballon Rouge gradually extended to every corner of the island.

Five years have passed, and the Le Ballon Rouge continues to fly high in the southern blue sky, often carrying the culture and stories of the land to various places. Whether it is sharing activities on campuses, galleries, and other venues, market activities in the north, central, south, and east, or pop-up events in department stores, the red balloon can be seen rising, creating various beautiful surprises and encounters.

Last year, we opened the first branch of Le Ballon Rouge in Shuangxi District, New Taipei City, exploring local stories and creating links with the community through food and ingredients rich in the abundance of Hengchun. We used "food" as a method of exploring the local area, engage a sweet and fragrant journey of reading with our readers.

This year, we travelled northward again, launching a new store at the "Huashan 1914 Creative Park" in Taipei. Continuing the spirit of food communication, we transformed printed publications into culinary experiences and created a "reading table." In this space, we invite everyone to explore the stories of the origin, producers, and ingredients through taste buds. Of course, you can also read the cultural and storytelling content contained in the books here, or chat with us and imagine the possibilities of the future.
